Schools and Private Instructors: There is not much difference between a NauticEd School or a NauticEd Private Instructor and there is no advantage to going either route. Feel free to contact either. A school will assign you an associated qualified NauticEd instructor on staff. A Private Instructor is a qualified NauticEd instructor who operates on their own without the overhead structure of a school yet is equally qualified as any other.

Training: All NauticEd schools and Instructors can do sailing training and assessments. For SLC assessments, ensure the school has  an associated SLC icon and that the instructor you are going with also has an SLC icon associated. The SLC is the International Sailing License that is required for the Mediterranean and other locations.

Look for this Icon if you are wanting an SLC assessment

Assessments: Only the schools that have been approved by NauticEd to do assessments are able to sign students off to the various practical competency levels we have. The reason for this is that only NauticEd has the prestigious award of being recognized as in compliance with the American National Standards. We thus require any schools and Instructors (on staff or Private) who are able to assess for practical competency also be in compliance with the American National Standards. We monitor our schools closely to ensure compliance. Look for the American National Standards icon listed against each school. For SLC (Mediterranean Sailing License) look for the SLC logo against each school and Instructor to ensure their ability to sign off for SLC.

When viewing a school, be sure to click on reviews from other students.
