To gain the SLC for sailing in the Mediterranean or the Seychelles, you will need to:

  1. Pass all the bareboat charter master bundle of courses (about 8 courses).
  2. Have logged 50 days of experience in your logbook (with boat size and master of the vessel requirements)
  3. Have passed an on-water assessment of your skills with a NauticEd EDU-4 Qualified American National Standards Instructor.

You can do the assessment on a monohull or a catamaran. If you do it on a monohull, you can still be qualified to charter a catamaran. You must, however, become catamaran qualified or catamaran endorsed.

To gain a Catamaran Qualification, you must in addition to the above:

  • Have passed the Online  Catamaran Sailing Confidence course
  • Logged time into your logbook on a catamaran

To gain a Catamaran Endorsement, you must in addition to the above:

  • Have passed the Online Catamaran Sailing Confidence course
  • Been assessed on a catamaran for your competence (about 4 hours minimum)

See this article about Catamaran Endorsements and qualifications

(The length of the catamaran permitted is based on your previous boat length experience logged or the length of the catamaran in the assessment, plus 10 feet.

Keep in mind that your resume does the work for you in terms of what boat type and size you qualify for, and it is the charter company's decision if they will allow you to charter. For example, if you have only ever sailed a 30-foot boat, you possibly may not qualify to rent a 45 ft boat. Some charter companies are more picky than others.
