If you are chartering a powerboat and are an experienced sailor - yes the authorities do require you to pass the powerboat course material. Don't worry too much, the power course will be a breeze. There are just a few nuances about powerboats that you should know - so when you go through the course, if you feel like you know the material you can just jump to the next page. But don't be too hasty - many a sailor has already noted to us that they learned a lot by taking the Skipper Large Powerboat course.

To charter a powerboat for an extended time such as a week or more, you should get the NauticEd Bareboat Charter Master for Powerboats bundle of courses.

To charter a sailboat for an extended time such as a week or more, you should get the NauticEd Bareboat Charter Master for Sailboats bundle of courses.

There is a cross-over of courses, so if you intend to qualify later for sail there is not much extra work to do once you complete the power courses. To qualify for sailing certification after you qualify for power certification, You would just need to complete the Skipper Large Sailboat and Maneuvering Under Power course (for sailboats) and the Anchoring a sailboat course. Our software system will give you the appropriate credit for the Navigation courses already taken.

Also note that your logged sailing experience time in your NauticEd logbook counts for powerboat experience - but not the other way around - Logged power experience does not count for sailing experience.
